Wholesale Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box Skybox 18 Dangerous SituationBy Live 4 HimI have owned my skybox 18 for about 2 years and used it on several trips traveling well over 2500 miles with this cargo box. Have used a number of Yakima products for over 20 years and loved all of them until now. We were returning from a Colorado skiing trip and about 3 hours into our return trip encountered gusty winds ranging from 25-40 MPH. Much to our surprise we heard a loud noise and suddenly realized the top cover on the SkyBox 18 sheered off the base of the box. The locks were still both in the closed position, so the cover on the box must have flexed due to the wind force and popped off the base. Our box is destroyed and we lost over $500 worth of equipment. Thankfully, it was 6:30 AM on a remote road and the top nor the contents hit other passing vehicles.
